Volleyball Classic – 2014

The Holy Angels Athletic Committee sponsored the 18th annual Holy Angels Volleyball Classic during the week of October 13-18. The Classic used bracket and pool play format with some of the best teams from the area competing at the seventh and eighth grade levels.

The two Holy Angels 7th grade teams both won their first and second round matches to set up a HA-Blue vs. HA-White championship final.  To reach the final, HA-Blue defeated Cabrini and St. Joseph, while HA-White posted victories over St. Kilian and St. Anthony. In the final, the White Team took control early and won the first game 25-11.  The Blue Team bounced back with a 25-20 win in the second game to set up a deciding third game for the championship. In the finale, the White Team took the early lead and posted a 15-9 victory to claim first place.

At the 8th grade level, injuries prevented the HA-Blue team from playing at full-strength and they were defeated in their first two matches.  The bounced back on Saturday to claim seventh place with a convincing 28-18, 25-14 win over St. Kilian.  The HA-White team also defeated St. Kilian and St. Gabriel to face St. Joseph for the championship. In the title match, Holy Angels took the first game 25-21, but dropped the second, 19-25.  In the deciding third game, St. Joseph took an early lead and defeated the Royals 15-12 to claim the title.

The final standings were: Grade 7…1st: Holy Angels-White; 2nd: Holy Angels-Blue; 3rd: St. Joseph; 4th: St. Frances Cabrini; 5th: St. Anthony; 6th: St. Kilian; and 7th: St. Francis Borgia.  Grade 8… 1st: St. Joseph; 2nd: Holy Angels-White; 3rd: St. Gabriel; 4th: St. Francis Cabrini; 5th: St. Mary; 6th: St. Francis Borgia; 7th: Holy Angels-Blue; and 8th: St. Kilian.
