Sturgeon Help

On Saturday, October 3, four members of the Holy Angels HOPE Club spent the afternoon helping out at the 4th annual “Return the Sturgeon” event at Thiensville Village Park. A call to the club came in on Thursday, asking for volunteers to assist with children’s activities, and with only 2 days notice, HA students were able to lend a hand.

The annual event is part of Riveredge Nature Center’s efforts to help restore the lake’s sturgeon population. Lake sturgeon, once abundant in Lake Michigan, are the oldest and largest native fish to the lakes, and are important to the Great Lakes ecosystem. The Volunteer Resource Director at Riveredge was having trouble getting volunteers, and thought of the HOPE Club. She must have been impressed with our efforts last school year at Riveredge.

Thanks to Cera Propper, Morgan Duffus, Maddie Craig, and Rachel Monday for representing Holy Angels in service to our community.
