Students Fly High on Trip to EAA

The annual Big/Little Buddies Field Trip took nine busloads of students and chaperones to Oshkosh and the EAA AirVenture Museum. The buddies were able to see actual planes from history as well as replicas of the Wright Brothers’ first airplane, Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis (with a Lego layout of Paris), and the Voyager. In addition to viewing over a hundred aircraft of just about every shape (the carplane) and size (the world’s smallest plane), the students also tried their hand at making their own airplane (well, they were paper airplanes…but they flew!).

Several exhibits provided buddies with an opportunity to fly a simulated hot air balloon without crashing into trees, to guide a model plane through take-off and landing, to sit in the cockpit of different types of planes and fly in a simulator. Buddies also discovered the basic aspects of jet propulsion. A fun day was made even better with a bag lunch sitting among the aircraft in the main hall of the EAA, followed by cool treats back at HA!
