Sixth Grade Camping

The sixth graders recently participated in the Environmental Stewardship Program at Camp Gray near Baraboo. The program is supported by the Madison Diocese and emphasizes our common call to being good caretakers of the earth’s resources. Along with learning about a variety of habitats and the creatures that live there, students also had time to enjoy activities together.

The morning solo hike provided an opportunity for reflection and quiet. After each meal, the amount of waste was measured and tabulated. at the end of the two days, it was calculated that the amount of food wasted per student per meal was about 0.012 pounds! (We’ll have to see if that can impacts waste at school?!)

Finally, this year’s class joined others from the past five years in signing Abraham’s Pact, a covenant to make greater efforts in caring for our environment.
