Sixth Grade Becomes Stewards of the Environment

The sixth graders participated in the Environmental Stewardship Program at Camp Gray near Baraboo and came back with new insights about God’s precious gift of our surroundings. The students participated in learning activities such as comparing managed and unmanaged forests, examining (closeup!) a stream which starts as a spring and ends up in the Gulf of Mexico, learning survivor skills, and getting the “dirty” on composting. By reducing, reusing and recycling for a couple of days, students discovered ways that they could be better stewards of our environment in everyday life. There was also time for fun and games as students shared life together for two days. Prayer experiences included a Solo Hike, special meal songs, evening vespers, and a concluding ritual and covenant signing.
