Oktoberfest Celebrated at HA

Recently both the 7th and 8th grade German classes celebrated Oktoberfest with Frau Sternig.  After learning about the history of Oktoberfest, which celebrated its 200th anniversary this year, students enjoyed some German favorites, such as pretzels, cheese and sausage, pickles, caramel apples, cookies and of course, German chocolate cake!  The drink of the day was apple juice. And it wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without the traditional singing of “O Du Schone Schnitzelbank”, a silly rhyming song enjoyed by all. By the way, Oktoberfest began with the wedding of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese in 1810.  Guests had so much fun, the reception went on for days!  And so the tradition of 16 days of Oktoberfest was started in the beautiful city of Munich, Germany.
