NCEA Distinguished Graduates

As part of the Catholic Schools Week celebration, Holy Angels School in West Bend recently presented this year’s National Catholic Educational Association’s Distinguished Graduate Award to Amy Schmidt and Scott Schmidt.

In the presentation, principal Mike Sternig noted: “This year’s distinguished graduates  are very familiar faces at Holy Angels and in the West Bend community. Between the two of them (and you may have to try to figure out which one in some cases): there are awards presented by the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps; recognition as the Kiwanian of the Year; leadership of the Downtown West Bend Association; service the parish as cantor and Eucharistic minister; volunteering at the West Bend Germanfest and Festival of Angels; assisting individuals in need and so much more.”

In their professional capacity as directors of the Schmidt Funeral Homes, the brother and sister were also recognized for providing countless family members and loved ones in the community with compassion and understanding at a time of loss and grieving.

Sternig also noted, “Most praiseworthy in my mind has been their ability to rise above adversity with dignity and integrity as they continued traditions in their family business. These two graduates have made their Catholic faith an important aspect of their daily lives.  They can be seen as models of being ‘angels to others’ by the way they constantly respond to the ‘call to serve’ others in our parish and in the greater community.”
