Holy Angels School Committee – August 17, 2011

1. Call to Order / Prayer: Present- Tony Spaeth, Kyle Zautner, Kelly Waala, Steve Stanek (PCL),
Julie Schmidt, Brian Glaszcz, Mike Sternig. David Tennies arrived 8:10 PM. Absent/ Excused- Beth Holbrook.

2. Approval of Minutes: Motion passed 6-0 on a motion by Kelly Waala (Kyle Zautner 2nd)

3. Old Business:

Enrollment Update: Budgeted for 339 students/ actual 337.

Enrollment as of 8/17/2011:

K3 – 15 Gr1 – 40 Gr4 – 31 Gr7 – 37
K4 – 28 Gr2 – 35 Gr5 – 33 Gr8 – 33
K5 – 25 Gr3 – 25 Gr6 – 35 Total: 337

4. New Business:

A. Mission Statement Review:

As part of the parish community and relying on the grace of God, Holy Angels School shares in the ministry of teaching the Catholic faith which is practiced daily by forming community, proclaiming the Gospel, serving others, and praising God. With the support of parents and guided by the Holy Spirit, the faculty and staff are dedicated to helping students to grow and mature in faith, knowledge and values by providing a quality curriculum with high academic and behavioral standards.

All present agreed no changes were necessary at this time.

B. Facilities Report:

Main Hallway is to be waxed.
Music Room has a new Smart Board
Old School building had three drinking fountains replaced.
New woodchips on playground equipment area

C. Annual Goals:

Leadership Development Series will be hosted by Holy Angels School. It is a three part series to educate school committees.

Kyle Zautner mentioned looking into 3rd Source Funding.

Steve Stanek suggested a joint meeting between HASC and Holy Angels Parish Council.

Mike Sternig brought up the possibility of meeting with other school committees. Also, the school website will be ready by Sept 8, 2011.

D. Beginning of School/ Parent in the Classroom

Parent packets are available this week in church. STM- Sustaining The Mission is continuing Catholic Education for the teachers, Open house on August 28, 2011 PAC is hosting a continental breakfast.

Discussion at Parent in the Classroom to include: prayer, website changes, SCRIP, PAC, FiestHA, online grading, and handwriting expectations.

E. Interim assessments, based on CCSS(Common Core State Standards)

Similar testing to the Iowa testing, to be conducted in September, January and a date in the spring of 2012 to assess reading and math. The same skills will be tested each of the three times.

5. Committee Reports:

A. Athletic Committee: Volleyball has started.

B. Development Committee

FiestHA will be October 15, 2011, Kara Guse is the new Fundraising Chairperson, Kelly Waala is the new editor of the Holy Angels Messenger. The Holy Angels Golf Outing was a success. Tony Spaeth wants to see efforts made to include families new to the school.

6. Financial Report: as of 7/26/2011 Mike Sternig assured all present that the finances were in good shape.
