Lucky Sixth Graders

What brings you good Luck? Ancient Egyptians were very superstitious people and had many ways to protect themselves from evil and bring only good fortune. One of their ancient good luck charms was a cartouche, an oval pendant threaded on a string or leather thong and worn around the neck with a name written on it. The sixth graders are studying Ancient Egypt and have created their own cartouches. They went to an Egyptian web site and learned how to write their names using Egyptian hieroglyphics. Then we made plaster molds, painted them black, and carved our “Egyptian” names in them. Our classroom should now be a very “luck filled” place.
