Lent Begins with Retreat

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten Season and a mini-retreat day for Holy Angels students. The morning began with an all-school Mass and the traditional Distributions of Ashes.

Back at school, the teachers of each of the grade levels had prepared activities to help students to focus on this special season of reflection and renewal. Some of the grades took time to start writing letters to the elderly and homebound. ¬†Others will be spending Lent giving alms by eating a minimal snack and putting money aside for the local food pantry. ¬†Shoes and feet will be visual reminders for some classes to follow in Jesus’ footsteps as we journey together through Lent.

The junior high listened to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta talk about loving the poor and showing that love through works of mercy. Students then reflected on ways they could live out the Church’s teachings on social justice through each of the corporal works of mercy. Junior high students also spent time at the Adoration Chapel.
