Lamar Premier at MOWA

On Sunday, May 22nd, the Museum of Wisconsin Art hosted the premier showing of a new children’s book written and illustrated by the students of Holy Angels School in West Bend.  The unveiling of the book took place at 1:00pm and a reception for authors and illustrators continued until 4:00pm.

The book, “Lamar, the Curious Lamb”, was written in parts as each grade level contributed to the story line while working with classroom teachers.

Illustrations were also designed and created by students at each grade level with the guidance of this year’s Artist-in-Residence, illustrator Bonnie Leick.  The program is part of the Stehling Project which provides funding for special learning opportunities at Holy Angels, a “unique, premier and enduring” Catholic school.

Leick is an award-winning illustrator of children’s books and magazines whose career includes working in the animation industry for companies including Disney, Creative Capers and Warner Brothers. Her book illustrations include: “Where the Mild Things Are”, “Beautiful Moon”, and “Goodnight, Little Monster”.
