In the consolation bracket, St. Joseph showed no mercy on the host school’s White team. The Cougars built an early lead and never looked back in a 59-14 win.

The other second round consolation matchup between Holy Angels-Blue and Port Catholic saw the lead change hands throughout an exciting four periods. The Royals’ Jordan Petrin scored twice in the closing minute of the second period to give the host school a 14-11 lead. Mark Burmesch answered at the buzzer with a three-pointer to tie the game at 14-14. Port Catholic caught fire in the third period to build a 24-18 lead. Petrin countered with a couple of baskets in the paint and Larry Batterman‘s three pointer tied the game at 26-26 with a minute left in the third period. Port Catholic’s Tony LoCisero tallied at the end of the period to give the Phoenix a 28-26 edge going into the final stanza. The teams matched baskets and three-pointers (Port’s Burmesch and HA’s Peter Zwack), resulting in a 35-35 tie with under two minutes left on the clock. Alex Gantner’s free throw gave the Phoenix a 36-35 lead, but Petrin scored to give the Royals a 37-36 lead with 1:28 remaining. In the closing minute, Holy Angels dominated the defensive boards but committed three turnovers, giving Port Catholic a final opportunity for the win. The final shot bounced off the rim and into the hands of a Royals rebounder, securing a 37-36 victory.
