HA Classic (Tuesday)

Holy Angels-White raced to a 9-0 first period lead against Port Catholic. The teams exchanged baskets until the host Royals went on a 12-0 run to close out the game, 35-14. Tyler Rehman scored 15 points and Nathan Felix added 10 for the Royals.

In the finale, Holy Angels-Blue outscored St. John 10-2 in the first period, only to have the Eagles fly back with a 9-2 second period run. Each team could only score once in the third period to set up the final stanza with Holy Angels clinging to a 14-13 lead. Baskets by Shane Rose and Derek Dich stretched the Royals lead to 18-13. Back came the Eagles with baskets by Andrew Komurka and Sam Markworth to cut the lead to 18-17. Tight defenses caused both teams to go scoreless until Rose dished off to Matthew Waech for a layup and a 20-17 edge with less than two minutes remaining. Komurka hit the front end from the free throw line to cut the lead to 20-18 with :51 on the clock. The Royals kept the ball out of the Eagles hands forcing an intentional foul. Waech increased the lead to 21-18 from the charity stripe, but a turnover gave the Eagles one more chance with one second on the clock. A three point attempt missed its mark and the host teams were two-for-two on the night.
