HA Classic Celebrates 30 Years – Tuesday
Tuesday’s opener was an exciting eighth grade matchup between St. Kilian and Port Catholic. St. Kilian held a slim 13-11 lead going into the locker room, but let it slip away as the Phoenix paced the third period to grab a 19-18 edge going into the fourth quarter. Tied at 26-26 with 1:34 left on the clock, St.Kilian couldn’t find the basket and was forced to foul. Hitting both ends of the bonus helped the Cougars post a 33-26 win.
In seventh grade action, St. Francis Borgia was propelled by a 14-6 third quarter run to turn a close game into a solid victory over St. Kilian, 48-32.
St. Mary’s mystified Holy Angels-Blue to take a first period 11-1 lead. The host Royals outscored their guests 6-2 in the second stanza to cut the lead to 13-7. Holy Angels continued to have difficulties penetrating the St. Mary’s defense in the second half as the Crusaders moved on the the championship bracket with a 31-16 win.
In the finale, St. Frances Cabrini maintained a lead throughout their game against St. Boniface going into the fourth period. St. Boniface cut the lead to 30-27 with 4:05 on the clock. Cabrini stormed back with a 11-0 run over the next three minutes to ice a 43-31 win and a trip to the championship bracket.
