HA Classic Celebrates 30 Years – Monday

The 2008 Holy Angels Basketball Classic reached a milestone as it celebrates its 30th tournament. Monday night’s action included an early game featuring Holy Angels and St. Frances Cabrini (several of the players had to get to WBW for incoming freshmen orientation). The teams stayed close in the first period with the visitors holding a 10-8 lead. The teams went into halftime following a “cold” second period with Cabrini hanging onto a 14-8 lead. The Knights caught fire in the third stanza to take a 28-17 lead which they maintained to the final buzzer, defeating the tourney hosts, 38-28.

In the second game of the evening, Port Catholic outscored St. Jerome in the second period 15-6, en route to a 47-33 first round win in the eighth grade pool play. St. Bernard’s trapping defense easily handled St. Francis Borgia as the Eagles cruised to a 50-22 first round win. The evening’s finale featured a seventh grade matchup between Holy Angels-White and Richfield. The Raiders used a stifling defense to keep the host Royals away from the basket and off the boards. Richfield jumped to an early 16-8 lead and dominated the second half to earn a 32-12 win.
