HA Classic – 8th Grade: 2nd Round

In the opening game of Wednesday’s Holy Angels Classic/West Bend Championships, the host team jumped out to an early lead as Ben Tennies connected on a pair of three pointers to give Holy Angels a 14-9 edge over Silverbrook-White at the end of the first period.  The teams exchanged baskets through the second period, going into the locker rooms at 23-17. The Royals increased their intensity and used double-teams and pressure for an 18-5 run and a 41-22 margin going into the final period.  With all players seeing significant playing time, Holy Angels advanced to Saturday’s fourth place matchup with a 45-32 win.  Tennies led all scorers with 14 points, followed by Andrew Steiner (12) and Tanner Hopp (10).  Adam Marmelink paced Silverbrook with 7.

Kendrick Davis propelled Badger-White to a win over Cabrini, 54-21, to advance to a Saturday matchup with Holy Angels.  Davis led all scorers with 22 points, while Dominic Adamo (9) and AJ Kreuser (8) also contributed scoring to the Badger victory.

Badger-Red used a balanced scoring attack to handle St. Mary’s, 56-22, and earn a spot in Saturday’s championship game. Leading the Badgers in scoring were Noah Barnes (12 points), Aaron Gruber (9), Devon Hanson (7) and Nick Rosenthal (7). Tyler Koslowski paced the Crusaders with 10 points.

In the other championship semi-final, Good Shepherd continued its pressure defense and ball movement to claim a spot in the championship game by dominating Silverbrook-Blue, 48-14.  The Rams’ shooters were unselfish as nine players scored, led by Tyler Kemnitz (12 points), Nathan Weiss (9), Brendon Clements (8), and Colin Biesterfeld (8).  

The title game in this year’s West Bend Championship is scheduled for Saturday at noon. Other games in the Holy Angels Classic start at 8:15am.
