HA Classic – 7th Grade: Final Round

St. Frances Cabrini captured this year’s title in the 7th grade bracket of the Holy Angels Classic with a solid victory again Silverbrook-White. Silverbrook scored twice in the last three seconds of the second period to cut the Knights’ lead to 17-11 at the half. Cabrini outscored the Vikings in the third period as Jack Thelen and Mitch Johnson combined for 14 points and a 37-16 margin going into the final stanza. Cabrini claimed the championship trophy with a 44-23 win. Johnson led all scorers with 17 points while Andrew Lucka added 11. Hogan Johnson paced Silverbrook with nine points.

Badger-Red’s Justin Schroedel pick the right time to become a scoring machine as he led the Badgers to a 27-24 win over St. Kilian for third place.  Schroedel’s scoring attack included a pair of three pointers, seven baskets and 2×2 from the free throw line for a tournament high 22 points. Ryan Zuern kept the Cougars in the game with nine points but a late surge fell short for St. Kilian.

In the battle for fourth place, St. John the Baptist and Silverbrook-Blue used tenacious defense to prevent the opponent from scoring. With under two minutes remaining, Tyler Rohleder’s basket gave Silverbrook a 21-18 lead.  Nathan Francis responded with a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 21-20. Forced to foul the Jaguars put Keagan McInnis on the line where he converted on 3×4 free throws to give Silverbrook the win, 24-20. Tony Spence led the Vikings in scoring with 11 points.

In the consolation division Holy Angels saw an early lead evaporate as Badger-White used a 7-0 run to take a 14-10 lead into the locker room.  The Badgers held a 19-18 edge going into the closing period. Foul trouble sent the host team to the free throw line where Alex Pouros connected on five free throws to propel the Royals to a 26-22 win. Sean Jessup scored 13 points to lead the Royals. Max Rohlinger led Badger scoring with 11.
