HA Classic – 7th Grade: 2nd Round

The seventh grade division of the Holy Angels Classic continued Wednesday night.  Silverbrook-White and Cabrini advanced to Saturday’s championship game with second round wins. In a close game, Silverbrook took an early lead and maintained a slim margin on the way to a 39-36 victory over Badger-Red. Connor Gawlick led the Viking attack with 13 points including five from the free throw line. Josh Tomoszewski tallied 12 points for the Badgers.

In the other semi-final, Cabrini and St. Kilian see-sawed throughout a second half that saw seven lead changes. Cabrini had a chance to put the game away late but missed on four free throws to let St. Kilian keep within striking distance at 25-24. A flurry of turnovers and missed shots culminated with a blocked shot at the buzzer by Jack Thelen to seal the victory for Cabrini. John Turchi led St. Kilian with 10 points, while Mitch Johnson scored 9 for the victors.

In earlier action, Silverbrook-Blue used a 14-0 second period run to take a commanding halftime lead against Badger-White, 21-6.  Max Rohlinger’s eight points combined with Caleb Beversdorf’s three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the margin to 25-22 going into the final stanza. The Vikings patiently took time off the clock with passing and full court pressure to secure a 34-27 win. Tony Spence led Silverbrook with 10 points with Dustin Fechter adding 9. Sam Scherzer led the Badgers with 10 points.

Holy Angels built a comfortable first half margin against St. John the Baptist, 16-9.  The guests outscored their host 17-7 as Alec Struve and Lex Eggert combined for 12 third period points and a 26-23 lead. Both teams had difficulty scoring down the stretch as St. John posted a 28-24 win. Zach Trinastic led Holy Angels with 13 points, while Struve paced the Jaguars with 11.

The final round will be played on Saturday beginning at 8:15am with the championship game that needed to be rescheduled at that time slot.
