HA Classic – 7th Grade: 1st Round

The 7th graders took the court in Week 2 of the Holy Angels Classic and Badger-Red turned a significant size advantage into a first round win over the host school.  The Badgers took control early with a 23-13 halftime lead.  The Royals tallied two quick baskets to begin the third period but the visiting team’s speed and size was no match as Badger advanced with a 49-38 victory. Justin Schroedel (18 points) and Theran Wanta (12) paced Badger, while leading scorers for Holy Angels were Alex Pouros and Sean Jessup with nine each.

Luke Carroll hit a pair of three-pointers and Ryan Zuern tallied nine of his game high 13 points in the first period, including 5×5 from the free throw line, to give St. Kilian a solid 17-5 lead over Badger-White. The Cougars continued to control the game as they advanced in the championship bracket, 38-17.  Max Rohlinger and Mitchell Miller combined for 11 points for the Badgers.

Connor Gawlick’s three-point basket at the buzzer completed an 11-0 first period run by Silverbrook-White in their matchup with St. John the Baptist (Plymouth). Gawlick scored 16 points and Brad Bodden added nine as the Vikings won, 37-9.

Cabrini cruised to a first round win over Silverbrook-Blue, 57-17. Nine players scored for the Knights led by Mitch Johnson (15 points), Nathan Burns (11) and Jack Thelen (9). Kegan McGinis and Tony Spence each tallied eight points for the Vikings.
