HA Basketball Classic – Thursday
The second round of the seventh grade bracket got off to a torrid start as Holy Angels-White and St. Boniface tallied 36 first quarter points with the visitors taking the lead on a buzzer beater by Brian Hunter, 19-17. The Eagles scored twice in the final minute of the quarter to take a 29-24 lead into the locker room. Both teams struggled in the third period with St. Boniface maintaining a 33-28 lead going into the final stanza. The Royals turned frigid down the stretch as St. Boniface posted a 43-32 victory. Trenton Rehman (12) and Jim Dieck (10) led the way for Holy Angels; Calvin Gardner scored 12 points for the Eagles.
In the second game, Holy Angels-Blue held a slight 16-12 lead over Port Catholic at the half. The visiting Phoenix climbed to within a point at 22-21 with 2:00 remaining in the third period. The host Royals’ 12-5 put together a fourth quarter run, powered by Jack Meurer’s 8 points (game high of 14 points), giving them a 34-26 victory. Lucas Brost led Port Catholic with 13 points.
