HA Basketball Classic – Monday

Monday’s action in the 29th annual Holy Angels Basketball Classic featured pool play in the 8th grade division. In the opening matchup, Holy Angels-Blue faced St. Frances Cabrini. The visiting Knights took an early lead, but the host Royals climbed their way to a 22-18 halftime lead. Cabrini took a 32-30 lead into the final period and when Trevor Dassow connected to tied the score at 32 with 5:00 on the clock, it looked like it would be a real nail-biter. Ben Linnebur hit a three-pointer to start a Cabrini barrage as the Knights tallied ten unanswered point to take a commanding 42-32 lead with under three minutes remaining. High scorers Dylan Thelen (12) and Linnebur (20) added eight more points down the stretch as Cabrini posted a 55-40 win. Joe Meurer paced the Royals with 16 points.

In the evening’s finale, Richfield traveled to West Bend after an earlier game and faced the Holy Angels-Blue team (which also played earlier). Both teams scored with ease in the first quarter with the Red Raiders taking a 16-11 edge. However, the second period belonged to the visitors as they stretched their lead to 31-16 at the half. Another surge in the fourth period gave Richfield a 61-34 victory. Joey Glynn led ten Richfield scorers with 14 points. Holy Angels’ Joey Meurer led all scorers with 18 points.
