Geography in the News

Some recent studies have shown that students in the United States do not have a strong knowledge of world geography. Holy Angels has joined with schools throughout the country to improve student awareness of the importance of geographical knowledge by participating in the 15th annual Geography Bee. This year’s competition again featured ten class champs attempting to answer questions about US and world geography. After several rounds, seventh grader Betsy Reuteman emerged as the school champion (fifth grader Jessica Nordquist was the runner-up) as she correctly identified the monetary unit of Mexico and Argentina.

(The correct answer, as announced by event coordinator Mrs. Schoenwetter, was “peso”)
