Fifth Graders Graduate from D.A.R.E.

On Wednesday, January 7th, the fifth graders of Holy Angels and St. Mary’s received their reward for working very hard in the D.A.R.E. program. After the principals of each school said a few words, the essay winners read their compositions. The essay of Maggie Reuteman in particular brought a few tears to the audience’s eyes. The young adults (according to Officer Hartwell) proudly received their graduation certificates from their teachers. Darren the Lion. mascot of D.A.R.E., was then raffled off to fifth graders Teresa Weber and Joe Meurer. Finally, the fifth graders signed shirts and had cake and juice, compliments of Old Fashioned Bakery and McDonald’s. “The cake was really yummy and the ceremony was good too,” said graduate Brandon Spaeth. A special thanks to Officer Hartwell and all the parents and teachers who helped make the D.A.R.E. graduation possible. You are truly “cool and awesome!”

Many fifth graders wore their newly-autographed shirts to school and are seen participating in a social studies activity simulating an ocean boat crossing.
