DARE Graduation

Holy Angels fifth graders participated in the D.A.R.E. program during the first semester.  The program was provided by Detective Hope Demler and sponsored by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Recently, a graduation was held to mark the end of the program of instruction and beginning of a commitment to living what was learned.

The students learned many facts about drugs and alcohol, but more importantly, they also learned how to cope with peer pressure regarding negative behaviors.  With the support of parents and the community, the fifth graders have many sources to help them make great life decisions.  Several community leaders, such as the mayor, sheriff, and assistant district attorney, emphasized the importance of the students’ commitment to a positive life style.

Several students were honored for their participation in the program and some of the participants shared their essay with the audience.  Following the ceremony, students autographed each other’s shirts as a remembrance.
