Closing Mass Honors Teachers and Volunteers

The Closing Mass for the 2011-12 school year provided an opportunity to say “thank you” to many of the volunteers who served Holy Angels throughout the year.  Following the Mass, the volunteers were guests at the annual Thanks-A-Brunch sponsored by the Student Council.

The gathering also provided a chance to show appreciation and offer best wishes to two teachers: second grade teacher Sheila Jurss and first grade teacher Mary Ann Kletzine.  Mrs. Jurss has taught at Holy Angels for ten years and is moving to the Chicago area.

Mrs. Kletzine (also known as “Miss Wagner” by hundreds of former students) began teaching first grade at Holy Angels in 1971 and is retiring after 41 years of service.  Most of her ministry was in first grade although she had also taught in other grades. Mary Ann also served the parish by coordinating the Sunday morning Pre-School Program for many years.  Students hope that she will return each year for the student-faculty volleyball game where her serve is legendary!

During the celebration, Mrs. Kletzine received many cards and hugs from current Holy Angels students.  She was then surprised to find the center aisle of church filled with representatives from each of her 41 classes of students. From 1971 first grader Steve Albinger to 2012 first grader Lydia Reichenberger, each presented Miss Wagner/Mrs. Kletzine with a flower.  Finally, husband Jim Kletzine provided a flower and a special hug to the applause of the community. By the way, Jim will also be retiring this summer from the Holy Angels Maintenance Staff.

Mrs. Kletzine was then presented with a clock to represent the gift of time that she shared with Holy Angels as well as the gift of time we hope she enjoys for years to come.
