Buddies Study the Marsh

The Horicon Marsh has a rich and diverse history as students discovered during the annual Big/Little Buddy Field Trip. At one time, the area was a huge lake with steamships traveling a north-south route. At another period, the vegetation fueled fires which burned for months. Finally, most recent efforts have focused on returning the Horicon Marsh to a thriving ecosystem as part of a global migratory flyway.

At the Marsh, Big and Little Buddies also learned about water management (and its effect on fish), Wisconsin mammals, forests and food webs, and the techniques used in catching and tagging birds. The Buddies also enjoyed just being outside in the sunshine together, sharing a bag lunch away from school!
