Ash Wednesday Retreat Day

Holy Angels students began the season of Lent with a special Student Retreat Day on Ash Wednesday. After Mass, the primary students viewed a movie called The Proud Tree and began to work on a special Lenten folder for their theme: “Put Your Hands Together for God.”  Each week the children will have a special focus: prayer, give thanks, help others, use kind words, share, and listen to God.  During Lent they will be raising funds for Habitat for Humanity through “Nickels for Nails”.

Following Mass and distribution of ashes, the intermediate students paused to review Lent and its importance in our faith, creating footprints for their theme of “Journey with Jesus”.  The students were making lots and lots of prayer bracelets to sell at a later date. Each bracelet is made of beads corresponding to a prayer which is included with the bracelet. The bead colors remind students to pray that prayer throughout the day!  The cost of each bracelet is $2.00. The profits from the sale of these bracelets will be donated to the Holy Childhood Association to help children around the world.

As part of the Sustaining the Mission program in fall, teachers reflected on different forms of prayer. There are many ways that we are able to spend time in God’s presence. During the Retreat Day, junior high students focused on some of these different forms of prayer throughout the day: meditation, Gospel contemplation, spaced vocal prayer, pretzel-making, and adoration.
