Ash Wednesday Retreat

For Holy Angels students, Ash Wednesday began with Mass and the Distribution of Ashes. Following Mass, the morning was spent in a prayerful, reflective quiet with many activities to help provide a focus on this special time in the liturgical year…Lent.

Kindergartners viewed the story of “The Proud Tree” (which ended up being the cross at Calvary). Most students prepared their “God Picture”, an annual reflection on how they picture God in their life.  Junior high students looked at various ways to pray, including the making of pretzels which represent arms folded in prayer.

Students also wrote a certain A-Word (that is not spoken during the Lenten Season) on a large banner. The banner was rolled up and placed in a tube marked: Do Not Open Until Easter. At the Monday morning assembly after Easter, the banner will be unfurled with shouts of A………!
