A Holy Angels Christmas for the Ages

This year’s Christmas Performance recalled the 150 years of parish celebrations as students shared stories of founding priests and teaching sisters, early parishioners, and songs from the St. Basil Hymnal.

The evening began with a selection of Christmas songs performed by the HA/SFC Band. The historical figures of Isaac Verbeck, Father Casper Rehrl, Carl Quickert, and the first schoolmaster John Lindl were then brought to life (the schoolmaster even rang the original school bell). The background from Father Stehling’s nativity scene was re-created by junior high students who spent several weeks painting on canvas from the original design. Student choruses presented songs of the season, both familiar ones and those that conveyed messages of peace. Stories about Sister Mark were re-told as many parents remembered the School Sisters of Notre Dame. A resounding chorus of Angels We Have Heard on High brought the evening to a suitable conclusion as families looked forward to the coming holyday.
