28th Annual HA Basketball Classic – Monday

The first round of the 28th annual Holy Angels Classic Monday night saw the host school’s teams split as HA-Blue defeated Richfield while HA-White got knocked out of the hunt by St. Agnes.

In the opener, Holy Angels-Blue and Richfield battled to a 28-28 tie going into the final stanza. Zach Gallitz completed a three-point play to give the host Royals a 35-29 edge with 4:42 remaining. Baskets by Tyler Rehman and Caleb Duren, followed by a 4×4 free throw run by Matthew Waech, clinched the Holy Angels victory, 44-33. Rehman paced the Royals with 14 points.

St. Agnes’ full court press and trapping defense was too much for the Holy Angels-White squad as the Deacons jumped to a 30-11 halftime lead. St. Agnes advanced with a solid 42-24 win. Shane Rose led the Royals with 9 points, including 4×4 from the line.

Monday night’s halftime ShootOut produced a big winner during the third game as Robbie Kuklinski connected on a half-court shot to win a basketball camp donated by Rick Riehl and WCSS. Kuklinski followed that with a three-pointer to also win a basketball. A mountain bike was donated by Mountain Outfitters, another youth basketball camp session was donated by Rick Riehl, and a fishing package was provided by Frabill, Inc.
