13th Annual Volleyball Classic – Final Round

In the final round of the 2009 Volleyball Classic, the seventh grade Holy Angels squad squeaked past St. Kilian to capture the third place trophy. In the first game, Holy Angels turned a 19-21 deficit into a 25-21 win by scoring the final six points. The second game was just as close with St. Kilian cutting a 24-20 Holy Angels lead to 24-23 margin before the host team posted the winning tally, 25-23.

At the eighth grade level, HA-White was denied the third place trophy by St. Francis Borgia, which posted a 26-24, 25-9, 13-15 win over the host school.

The eighth grade championship match filled the packed gym with excitement as Holy Angels-Blue and Cabrini faced off in the finale. The host team was down 24-17 in the opening game, but rallied to score the final nine points to post a 26-24 win. In the second game, the two teams matched point-for-point as Cabrini cut a 21-17 Holy Angels lead to 21-20. The Royals tallied twice on each of their next two service opportunities for a 25-21 win and the 2009 title.

Final Standings:

8th Grade: 1st – Holy Angels-Blue, 2nd – St. Frances Cabrini, 3rd – St. Francis Borgia-Blue, 4th – St. Francis Borgia-White, 5th – Holy Angels-White, 6th – St. Kilian, 7th – Holy Trinity, 8th – St. Jerome. 7th Grade: 1st – St. Frances Cabrini-Green, 2nd – St. Francis Borgia-Blue, 3rd – Holy Angels, 4th – St. Kilian, 5th – St. Francis Borgia – White, 6th – St. Frances Cabrini-White, 7th – St. Joseph.
